Men in FUR...Problem?

With a crisp autumn upon us, the hunt for perfect coat and accessories should have
well and truly begun...
As i myself brave the elements in my pea coat or biker or trench ensemble i envision a
fur snood (Burberry of course) in mink or rabbit of course to complete the look.

I go in search trying and testing to find it...bring on the comments of friends.
Many highlight "how gay i'd look" let alone the "unethical way its produced"...meh

To be point blank, what is the problem with men in fur?
The answer is nothing....there is nothing wrong with a man wearing it!

It's luxe, its practical in winter months, it evokes a level of refinement and wealth....but with simple points such as these, does this pin point that woman have exclusive use of fur?

It takes a bold person to wear fur, be it for fashion or for the need to survive and a man
certainly harnesses the power to be bold...

With this in mind i close this subject and highlight that fur is to be worn and adored
and the wearer be it male or female makes no difference to the overall outcome of look chic!

Show opens and my sadness is apparent, reason being, no more Rachel ADEDEJI (said in the presenter stylee)

Role on the show opening of the mess that is the "group" performance...honestly what
are they thinking, its like a high school musical group of TW$TS...sorry but my bluntness then becomes apparent...

First "Star" performance...

Fergie the tranny suspended from a fricking moon, as she was lowered all i could think was *drop drop drop*
No name then comes out and i instantly lose interest / Arise Cheryl's performing monkey...WILLiam...he flys, all I'm going to say is WTF /
To sum this up...a terrible performance that resembled a technical rehearsal / vocals were out /
outfits showed no signs of interest / audience gave a lack luster clap at the end / why did Simon even rise to give a round of applause...


Second STAR Performance
Whoever does LeLe's stage production LOves the whole battlestar gallactica lighting, in all
fairness it works for her, its all about being dramatic...and it does just that....
Anyway - Perfect Vocal / I want that smokey eye make up / dolce and gabbana dress? / stunning much / flitter drop / excellent execution / xfactor contestants could stand to learn a
thing or two...to sum this up Flawless...

3. Alexandra Burke - surprisingly good...not the biggest fan of hers but what can i say

An opening of the twins going through made for a rather potty mouthed rant...why oh why did a nation that not only booed but jeered at the two little blond "£$%^^ put them through...

A sing off and Rach gives it more than her all...stumbled yes but victorious indeed!

Battle Star Balenciaga

As the audience took seat aboard this galatic adventure, they were sure to bear
witness to an amazing sight...
An opening of hooded beauties paraded down the runway, with a combination of
treated leather pants and bold striped tops it felt a different direction to the usual festivities at Balenciaga.
A progression of bold graphic lines in neon orange and sunshine yellow where left to do
the talking against dresses in simple shapes.
The close of the show saw for technical cuts of fabric which were layered on top of each other....
This brought the house back into is ususal home grown success...

It eludes me how a team of well trusted people, that are well aware of the fact that image is one of the most significant forms of reaching the public would allow for this image to be viewed by millions...
I'm all for thin and all but this took the biscuit...how Ralph Laurens staff would allow for this image to slip through their multi billion pound / dollar hands
(and heads so it would seem) is beyond me...
As a global community there is already a mystique that surrounds the world of fashion
and an image such as this will only push people further away from the
beauty that can be created...sort it out Ralph.

Londoners cannot go without a reality type tv show it would seem, i am no exception...with this in mind arise XFactor 2009

Today's show was a mixed bag of emotions, vocals, performances and well tantrums and that was just from the judges...

I call her Rachel but i wasnt sure if it was her or that bajan chick Rihanna when it comes down to the styling...as a show opener she was fantastic. Bold, strong and vocally tight..

I think that they should climb back into that drain that they emerged from...
Class has seemed to elude them on all fronts...bad vocal and BAD EVERYTHING

1. Brace yourself for the autumn / winter chill
What with the changing of seasons, comes with it the changing of wardrobe, although not time to reach for the woolliest of jumpers, it is perhaps the best time to head into stores and pick up your coat of choice to fend of the harshest of temperatures...

At last, Ambrosia have answered my prayers...apple crumble and custard all in one pot.

3. Sculpt Away
Anish Kapoor comes to London town and with him he brings along a spectacular array of work, definitely a must see at London's Royal Academy....

4. Art's COUNCIL
So my title for this a little deceiving perhaps but definitely something that all will gladly take themselves along to see...
London's art / fashion scene trot along to a council flat in Elephant and Castle to view what can only be called a refereed to as purely beautiful....

5. A Not So Funny Man
Lenny Henry's efforts to tread the stage of London's Westend has been anything but bad....his performance as Othello has gained him him rave reviews and i for one look forward to seeing this show

Geographic Godess

A stark opening of white bodycon dresses saw Frida's Gianni's Gucci clad models take to the runway in full force....an eruption of brightly coloured graphic print jackets and dresses emerge as we progress through the show. The crescendo saw a multitude of black somewhat gladiator like warrior looks tread the boards...drenched in intrcate beadwork and floaty fabrics it made for a great end to a spectacular show.

A truly solid vision from beginning to end....although i feel the collection has a feel that is perhaps to commercial, i imagine for high street retailers to have pencil to paper already sketching what will be their biggest sellers (the copycat generation is upon us)

Hot Child Out Of The City

With what felt like a reprise of woodstock 1969, the Caten brothers introduced us to their WW SS10 RTW collection...
A gang of long limbed beauties paraded down the runway showing how a sexy woodland girl should look, with cute prom dresses in decadent fabrics, slogan sweats and cute cut off denim we were shown again how to do casual / sexy / chic....
What did phase me somewhat were the plasters that some models adorned throughout the show, was this to show the rough edge of a woodland being...not sure, but these aside the festival chick reigned supreme.

80's flashback

Dolce and Gabanna took a reminiscent step back in time to the 80's with their SS10 Womens RTW show...
A strong use of black lace, we were instantly viewers of a somewhat decadent picture show as sexy and more womanly models paraded down the catwalk.
An opening of black manish tailoring contrasted against the lace / crochet like garment made for an interesting start, as the show continued we were treated to a Madonna like show of corsettry.
The crescendo of beautiful colours made for a welcome retreat back to what Dolce and Gabanna have made a name for themselves in recent years.

If there's one thing that RAF does well it's sneakers / trainers...drafting the cool waterproof fabric neoprene into this somewhat space age footwear, i feel totally taken away.
Somewhat like a space shuttle in it's shape and an added use of strong colour and interesting fabric we have a prize winning style..

The September Issue

As I sit here listening to Santagold singing Hometown Glory by Adele, I try to think of words that evoke my reaction toward the September Issue…

Pure genius / Sharp / Direct / Sassy / Fashion are just some of the statements that I think…by this I mean that the viewer gains a clear and very direct insight into a world that they would do anything to be a part of. As a fashion “insider” you go along hoping to that the world you slave for is shown in the right light and I can safely say that R.J.Cutler has done this…

I sat for 88mins looking on at the screen adoringly as Miss Wintour and her team go about creating what is referred to as a modern day bible for the fashionable and the devoted followers.

The star of course would be thought of as Miss Wintour but how wrong we are…step forward Grace Coddington…fashion royalty to those in the know. Heralded as one of the best stylist in the world, she steals the limelight with her charm, wit and sheer determination to not be in the picture, but it is with the traits listed before that she lifts the mood and throws the auditorium of watchers into fits of laughter. The banter between Grace and Anna is that of pure brilliance, as two very determined women butt heads we see pure beauty unfold as the pages of one of the worlds largest fashion magazines is created.

Those who make appearances throughout are fashion mavericks from Oscar De La Renta, to Nicholas Ghesquiere for Balenciaga to name but a few...we see how a fashion legend as Miss Wintour commands not only attention but is able to create for a house other than that of her beloved Vogue. As an outsider you see first hand the previews that Miss Wintour is subject too, not only seeing but critiquing what is shown to a world of buyers and other editors...

To conclude on my thoughts of “The September Issue” I can only encourage you to find your local cinema / auditorium / movie theatre and become as wrapped up in the words / drama / mystique as I did…you’ll leave with a sense of knowing what goes into creating a publication that is adored by the world over and just what Miss Wintour really is like…I’m just a click away from booking seats to watch it for a second time…
